The Serials and Electronic Resources Technician is responsible for receiving, processing, maintaining, shelving and preparing bindery shipments for print serials, which includes updating bibliographic and other related records for serial publications in print and electronic format at the Brooklyn and Manhattan campuses. Serials and Electronic Resources form an important cornerstone of these collections and this position plays a pivotal role in providing access to them. The Serials and Electronic Resources Technician is supervised by the Associate Director of Collections Management and also works closely with the Electronic Resources Librarian in the fulfillment of their duties. The successful candidate for this position will support the Pratt Institute Libraries’ educational vision, demonstrating commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, educational support, and community values.
Examples of Duties
Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required.
Experience: Work in an office environment with spreadsheets and databases required. Work in a library, especially with serials, is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: A successful candidate must be comfortable working with and learning new computing systems and applications, have excellent organizational skills, and be able to perform complex and detailed work accurately. They should also have excellent written and oral communication skills and a creative approach to problem-solving. The candidate must demonstrate intercultural competence and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to reach shelves above shoulder height and lift boxes over 20 lbs a must. Experience using an integrated library system and knowledge of library serial procedures and e-resource access issues, preferred.

Examples of Duties
- Receive and shelve serials and maintain accurate and neat shelving.
- Maintain holdings records for all active serial subscriptions, add records for new titles, and update records as serials are discontinued or withdrawn using the Sierra integrated library system.
- Develop documentation for and collaborate with stakeholders across the Libraries to process renewal decisions and assist in weeding projects.
- Actively liaise with vendors and representatives from our primary serials agent to request price quotes, renew subscriptions, and edit order records. Research new vendors as needed.
- Assist with the management of electronic resources as needed, including checking links and updating databases and holding records within the library’s catalog and journal finder.
- Organize serials in preparation for bindery, prepare binding shipments, and receive and shelve bound volumes.
- Participate in the hiring, training, and supervising of student workers and graduate assistants.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
