Why Choose to Work as a PTA in a Skilled Nursing Facility?
Working in an SNF offers unique rewards that many Physical Therapist Assistants find deeply fulfilling:
- Build lasting relationships with residents and see meaningful, long-term progress in mobility, strength, balance, and daily independence; helping them regain the ability to walk, transfer safely, and participate in activities they love.
- Enjoy a diverse caseload with varied diagnoses, allowing you to implement hands-on treatments and functional exercises, often more rewarding than faster-paced acute settings.
- Collaborate closely in a supportive interdisciplinary team (with PTs, OTs, SLPs, nursing, and more), where you play a key role in carrying out plans, reporting progress, and directly improving resident quality of life while preventing complications like falls.
- Benefit from strong job stability, competitive pay potential in nursing facilities, and the chance to make a real difference in geriatric and post-acute care amid growing demand for skilled mobility support.
In this Physical Therapist Assistant role, you'll:
- Assist the supervising Physical Therapist in evaluating patient status, observing during/after treatments, and reporting progress or changes.
- Implement individualized treatment plans as a PTA, including therapeutic exercises, gait training, manual techniques, stretching, and use of assistive devices like walkers or canes.
- Set clear goals with patients, educate them and families on expectations, and build understanding of their rehab process.
- Counsel patients and families while maintaining precise documentation for all visits, treatments, and outcomes.
