The Academic Resources Educator is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with diagnosed learning disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with accommodations, and other needed supports. The educator is able to identify and remediate deficient skills and provides support with executive functional skills, while consistently attempting to maintain grade-level learning.
Responsibilities and Duties/ Essential Job Functions:
- Create daily lesson plans that are individualized, standard/skill-based and best practice.
- Thoughtfully integrate instructional technology—including emerging AI tools—into planning, collaboration, differentiation, and assessment, in alignment with the school’s educational philosophy.
- Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of academic proficiency, language, cognition, and memory.
- Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
- Closely monitor students who are struggling with social competency, functional communication, and/or learning challenges and provide them with needed resources.
- Adjust the pacing and incorporate supplemental interventions so students with learning differences can access the general education curriculum.
- Increase educational knowledge and stay current on new methods by joining professional organizations, attending continuing education courses and attending regular training sessions for teachers.
- Offer praise and encouragement to students when they do well and when they are struggling, and encourage a growth mindset.
- Provide an engaging environment and motivating culture for learning.
- Offer differentiated and individualized instruction.
- Attend weekly meetings and parent/teacher conferences when needed.
- Attend work a maximum of eight working days prior to the commencement of classes and two administrative days following the conclusion of the school year.
- Participate in the ongoing curriculum development of the School and attend all teacher meetings.
- Consistent communication with the parents of each student, as needed.
- Prepare and present regular oral and written data-based reports to parents concerning their child’s education and welfare, as needed.
- Maintain student and family confidentially both on and off campus.
- Performs other duties as may be deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the department and division.
- It is essential for the Employee to arrive on time to work every scheduled work day. It is essential for the Employee to maintain good attendance and give ample notice, when possible, when Employee will be absent. It is essential for Employee to speak to co-workers with respect and to follow all of the requirements and expectations in the Employee Handbook.

Qualifications
The Academic Resources Teacher must have a valid FLDOE Teaching/Temporary Certificate. Must hold an ESE certification and/or a master’s degree in special education and is able to provide for appropriate learning experiences for students with learning differences in a classroom setting. Candidate must have a minimum of two years teaching experience in special education. Salary based on experience.
