Portland Public Schools: Paraprofessional Class 1

Portland Public Schools is accepting applications for a Paraprofessional Class 1 position at Westwood Elementary beginning with the 2026/2027 school year.

We are seeking a caring, patient, and student-centered individual who is passionate about supporting elementary students academically, socially, and emotionally in a positive and collaborative learning environment.

The desired candidate would possess the following attributes:

• Ability to assist students with instructional and non-instructional needs as assigned by the classroom teacher
• Ability to support students with technology and classroom learning activities
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of, or willingness to learn, behavior management strategies
• Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment in complex or stressful situations
• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records
• Compassion, flexibility, professionalism, and a positive sense of humor
• Ability to provide positive supervision of students in the classroom, playground, lunchroom, and other school settings
• Commitment to building positive relationships with students, staff, and families
• Willingness to contribute to a safe, supportive, and collaborative school culture

Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• A High School Diploma
• Ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and district colleagues
• Demonstrated ability to sustain and improve student achievement outcomes
• Willingness to contribute to a safe school climate of high expectations and strong collaboration, high staff and student morale, and positive community involvement

• Reports to: Elementary Principal
• Calendar: As per District Calendar
• Compensation: In accordance with PESPA contract: plus retirement and paid time off
