POSITION: Student Council Advisor (Shared Position)
LOCATION: Portland High School
Portland Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and student-centered individual to serve as a Student Council Advisor at Portland High School. This shared position provides leadership and guidance to the Student Council, develops leadership skills, and promotes school community through service, activities, and events.
The Student Council Advisor will work collaboratively with student leaders, school administration, staff, and community members to plan and implement activities that enhance student engagement and foster a positive school culture.
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of student leadership organizations and the purpose of Student Council.
- Experience planning, organizing, and supervising school events or student activities.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop student leaders.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Demonstrated commitment to creating a positive and inclusive school environment.
- Must have fingerprints scanned electronically and submitted to the Michigan State Police prior to hire.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: :
- Serve as the primary advisor to the Portland High School Student Council.
- Guide students in developing leadership, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
- Facilitate regular Student Council meetings and assist students in planning agendas and accomplishing organizational goals.
- Coordinate, supervise, and support student-led activities and events throughout the school year, which may include Homecoming, spirit weeks, assemblies, community service projects, fundraising activities, and other school-sponsored events.
- Assist students in developing annual goals, budgets, and event timelines.
- Ensure activities comply with district policies, school procedures, and student safety expectations.
- Work collaboratively with building administration and other staff members to promote school spirit, student involvement, and a positive school climate.
- Supervise students during meetings and school-sponsored events as assigned.
- Maintain appropriate records related to Student Council activities and finances.
- Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the Extra-Curricular Activities Coordinator or building administration.
