Quality Inspector – Gas Utility (Contractor‑Side Audits)
12month contract (potential to expend)
Location: Baltimore, MD (Local / Regional Field Coverage)
Salary Range: $50-$60hr plus benefits after 90 days (Healthcare & 401k)
We are hiring a senior Quality Inspector to support gas distribution inspection and audit work for a major, regulated gas utility in the Baltimore, Maryland area. This role is contractor‑side and works directly on utility projects, inspecting and auditing gas construction and maintenance activities performed by field contractors.
This position is ideal for inspectors who have spent years working against utility standards, conducting field inspections and/or QA audits, and who are comfortable operating independently in a highly regulated environment.
What You’ll Do
- Perform field inspections and quality audits on gas distribution work (mains, services, restorations)
- Audit contractor workmanship for compliance with utility standards, safety requirements, and regulatory expectations
- Review inspection documentation, photos, and reports for accuracy and completeness
- Identify deficiencies, track corrective actions, and verify close‑out
- Interface regularly with utility representatives, construction crews, and project managers
- Support compliance with state PSC regulations and utility quality programs
What We’re Looking For
- 7 years of experience in gas utility inspection, QA/QC, or compliance
- ***OQ/QC certifications highly desired***
- Applications exp: QC tracking systems, etc AS8, uPPM, QCI all preferred, candidate should have at least 5-7 yrs exp in this application exp space
- Experience working with a major gas utility (directly or as a third‑party contractor)
- Background inspecting or auditing gas distribution construction
- Strong understanding of utility safety standards, Dig‑Safe practices, and contractor compliance
- ServiceNow: 1 year or more
- Comfortable performing independent field work and documenting findings clearly
- Experience in Maryland or similar Mid‑Atlantic utility environments strongly preferred
Nice to Have
- Combination of field inspection audit / documentation experience
- Prior third‑party QA or contractor compliance roles
- Familiarity with PSC‑regulated utility programs
- Experience working alongside utility QA or construction oversight teams
