Logistics and Operations Manager

Polytec, Inc., has been in business for over 30 years in the water treatment industry.

The Logistics & Operations Manager at our Mooresville, NC plant oversees shipping, receiving, logistics, and inventory operations while supporting overall plant operations. This role exercises independent judgment in coordinating hazardous material handling, inventory control, and cross-functional plant activities. Reporting to the Plant Manager and as a key operational leader, the manager ensures safe, compliant, and efficient material movement and supports plant management in maintaining production and customer commitments.

What You Need to be Successful

· High School Diploma or GED.

· Associate degree or technical coursework in logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

· 2 or more years industrial, chemical, manufacturing, or logistics leadership experience

· Strong knowledge of shipping, receiving, logistics, and hazardous material regulations.

· Demonstrated leadership ability with experience overseeing hourly employees.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data entry, tracking, reporting, and analysis.

· Experience with ERP and inventory systems; Chempax and SAP experience considered an asset.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

· High attention to detail, particularly in documentation, data accuracy, and compliance.

Responsibilities

Shipping, Receiving & Logistics

· Manage all inbound and outbound shipments, including bulk, packaged, pneumatic, and hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and company policies.

· Oversee and participate in the loading and unloading of bulk tankers, pneumatic tankers, LTL carriers, and full truckload shipments, ensuring safe handling and proper weight distribution.

· Coordinate shipment scheduling, carrier logistics, and material flow to meet production demands and customer delivery requirements.

· Maintain accurate shipping documentation, including bills of lading, manifests, labels, SDS paperwork, and regulatory compliance records.

Inventory & Material Management

· Maintain accurate inventory for raw materials, finished goods, and packaging through cycle counts, physical inventories, and variance resolution.

· Manage customer and supplier part ordering to support uninterrupted production and logistics operations.

· Utilize ERP systems for material tracking, reporting, and data entry; Chempax and SAP experience considered a strong asset.

· Develop and maintain Excel-based tools to support inventory management, shipping logs, and operational reporting.

· Ensure proper storage, segregation, and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety and regulatory standards.

Safety & Compliance

· Oversee safe handling of hazardous materials, bulk chemical transfers, and transportation readiness.

· Promote a strong safety culture and enforce compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.

· Participate in safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation.

· Ensure accurate labeling in compliance with HMIS, DOT, and internal safety standards.

Operations & Technical Expertise

· Demonstrate operational knowledge of tanker handling, bulk transfers, and storage vessels exceeding 5,000 gallons.

· Oversee re-bagging operations for cationic and anionic dry polymers according to established procedures.

· Supervise and operate forklifts and other material handling equipment, including inspections and basic preventative maintenance.

· Apply working knowledge of piping, hoses, valves, and fittings to support operational tasks.

Leadership & Plant Support

· Assist the Plant Manager with daily operations, staffing coordination, production planning, and operational priorities.

· Make independent operational decisions regarding logistics, material movement, and production alignment.

· Act as delegated authority in the absence of the Plant Manager to ensure continuous, compliant, and safe operations.

· Manage cross-functional coordination with production, customer service, carriers, and suppliers to align schedules, priorities, and commitments.

· Communicate effectively to resolve issues, manage expectations, and support operational efficiency.

· Support employee training and development in shipping procedures, chemical handling, and safety standards.

As needed

· Support team members as needed.

· Other duties as assigned

Working Environment

  • Chemical manufacturing plant producing various alkaline mineral slurries. Limited interaction with other Hazmat and non-Hazmat products as needed.
  • Physical capability of performing tasks in 100 degree ambient temperatures while wearing Protective Personal Protection.
  • This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and also lifting (within OSHA guidelines).
  • This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal work environment.
  • Following all plant safety guidelines such as: Confined Space, Working with Heights, Management of Change, Hot Work and Operating Procedures.
