As a Construction General Laborer at Polk Mechanical, you'll be a foundational member of our construction team, performing a variety of critical physical tasks. Your primary responsibility will be to support our skilled tradespeople and ensure the smooth, efficient progress of our diverse commercial projects. Responsibilities:
- Physical Tasks: Engaging in physically demanding work, such as lifting, carrying, and moving heavy materials, equipment, and tools. You'll also assist with digging trenches, excavating, and leveling surfaces.
- Material Handling: Helping to load and unload construction materials, both manually and with equipment like forklifts or cranes. You'll ensure the materials are properly stored and organized on-site.
- Site Preparation: Preparing construction sites by clearing debris, removing obstacles, and setting up temporary structures like scaffolding and barricades. You'll also assist with installing safety measures such as fencing and signage.
- Equipment Operation: Depending on your skills and training, you may operate various types of construction equipment, including jackhammers, drills, and power tools, under the supervision of experienced operators.
- Demolition and Cleanup: Participating in demolition activities, dismantling existing structures, or removing unwanted materials. You'll also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the work area, ensuring it's safe and free from hazards.
- Assisting Tradespeople: Working closely with skilled tradespeople (carpenters, electricians, plumbers), aiding by fetching tools, materials, and equipment, holding objects in place, and following instructions to complete specific tasks.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to all safety regulations and guidelines, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), reporting any safety concerns or incidents, and actively participating in safety meetings and training sessions.
- Teamwork & Communication: Collaborating effectively with contractors, supervisors, and fellow laborers to ensure smooth workflow and project efficiency.
- Adaptability: Working in various weather conditions and on different types of construction projects (residential, commercial, industrial). You'll be flexible and adaptable to changing work environments and tasks.
- General Maintenance: Assisting with general maintenance tasks like repairing or replacing damaged equipment, cleaning tools, and maintaining overall site cleanliness.
