Field Service Technician

Job Summary

As part of our Service and Sales team, the Field Service Technician provides on-site technical support, annual inspections, and equipment troubleshooting for customers nationwide. This role combines hands-on field work with proactive customer communication, including scheduling service visits, quoting parts and repairs, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate service delivery. The position also supports ongoing customer relationships to promote repeat business and parts/service sales.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for customer inquiries regarding parts, service, and inspections via phone and email.

• Diagnose equipment issues and provide accurate quotes for parts and service using ERP/CRM systems.

• Troubleshoot electrical systems and work with engineering on PLC/controls issues while on-site.

• Use and read a multi-meter for electrical troubleshooting.

• Coordinate and schedule service trips, including travel arrangements (air, rental car, lodging) and expense reporting.

• Travel to customer sites (up to 60% of time) for service, installation, and warranty work on LPI equipment.

• Enter quotes, orders, and field service reports promptly after completing on-site work.

• Capable of working remotely from hotels while traveling, including answering emails, sending quotes, and completing service reports.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Sales to ensure parts availability and project readiness.

• Provide feedback to Sales and Engineering on product improvements and customer needs.

• Maintain strong customer relationships through proactive communication and follow-up for annual inspections and service opportunities.

• Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies.

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

• Ability to read schematics and blueprints; troubleshoot and collaborate with engineers.

• Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including using a multi-meter and working with PLC/controls.

• Comfortable using hand tools and specialized equipment for field service work.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and schedules months in advance.

• Willingness and ability to travel nationally, sometimes on short notice.

• Valid driver’s license required.

Education and Experience Required

• Technical diploma in Electro-Mechanical, Industrial Mechanics, or related field preferred.

• High school diploma or GED required; minimum 3 months of related experience/training.

• Previous experience with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems strongly preferred.

• Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching during field work.

• Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs regularly.

• Manual dexterity and visual acuity for equipment inspection and repair.

• Occasional extended periods of sitting or standing while performing office tasks.

Work Environment

• Field work may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, temperature fluctuations, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical hazards.

• Office work performed in a standard environment with computer and phone use.
