PCU Registered Nurse Job Details
- Location: Burlington, NC 27215 (North Carolina healthcare job)
- Unit: 30-bed Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Position Type: Locum tenens / Travel Registered Nurse contract
- Start Date: August 26, 2025
- End Date: November 4, 2025
- Assignment Length: 10 weeks
- Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekly Hours: 36
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1820 - $1870
- Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Required as needed
- Charting System: EPIC
- Self-Scheduling: 6-week periods via Optilink
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or Cardiac nursing experience required
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (North Carolina or compact state; must be in hand at submission)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS certification preferred
- Proficiency with EPIC charting system required
- Ability to manage 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratios (1:4 with drips/BiPAP)
- Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation, telemetry, cardiac drips, vasoactive drips, chest tubes, external CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management, and pre/post cardiac cath care
- Must pass EKG exam during compliance (2 attempts allowed)
- COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- First-time travel nurses welcome!
- Willingness to float to other campuses as needed
- Compliance file must be completed by the Wednesday prior to start date
- No local candidates accepted (must reside 50 miles from facility)
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with cardiac and respiratory diagnoses, including congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, pre/post cardiac catheterization, COPD, and pneumonia
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, responding promptly to patient condition changes
- Administer and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips as indicated
- Perform peripheral and PICC line care and management
- Manage chest tubes, tracheostomies, and provide respiratory support (CPAP/BiPAP)
- Participate in rapid response teams and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare staff
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently using EPIC
- Engage in self-scheduling and adapt to departmental needs, including weekend and holiday shifts
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and clinical excellence in patient care
