POSITION: CAMP PARAPROFESSIONAL
REPORTS TO: RECREATION DIRECTOR & ASSIST. RECREATION DIRECTOR
ORGANIZATION: Recreation Department
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for working with campers who require additional accommodations or assistance. Common work activities include helping participants with everyday activities, customizing daily schedules, supervising campers, monitoring progress, and ensuring a safe camp environment.
GENERAL DUTIES: Assists with identifying individual goals of campers and developing and monitoring outcomes with adjustments as needed. Assists individuals at camp with daily needs and activities. Completes required paperwork accurately as required by the camp. Ability to work with children individually or in small groups by providing basic instruction in abilities and skills developmentally appropriate to the student(s). Implements student individualized education program (IEP) plans in small groups or in one-on-one settings.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Requires the ability to successfully complete or have the American Red Cross CPR/First Aid. Must have experience working with children. Preferred PMT or other hold/restraint training. Must have the ability to work with groups of various ages, gender, race, ethnicity and socio-economic background.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Requires valid driver's license, good driving record, and provide own transportation.
WORK SCHEDULE & CLASSIFICATION: The Paraprofessional position will occur between June 22– August 21. Typically, 20-25 hours a week (could be up to 30) will be held at Day Camp at Norton Park. Paraprofessionals can expect to work between 6-9 weeks this summer depending on their availability and the number of participants with additional needs at camp.
