SUMMARY OF JOB: A Recovery Coach serves as a vital bridge for individuals in St. Joseph County navigating substance use or co-occurring disorders. Leveraging the power of lived experience, the Recovery Coach conducts proactive community outreach to engage underserved populations and promote long-term recovery. This role is dedicated to fostering independence and community inclusion by facilitating seamless access to essential resources, providing peer-based encouragement, and empowering clients to achieve their personal wellness goals.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED. Personal/lived experience with a SUD Diagnosis or history of, required. History or current recipient of SUD services, required. Certification as a Recovery Coach/Peer Support Specialist, preferred, or willing to complete certification process.

· Shares personal experience and knowledge of the healthcare system and community resources.
Physical Requirements
- Able to stoop, bend, lift and may occasionally require light lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Manual and digital dexterity are needed to complete case notes, operate a telephone, keyboard, etc.
- Able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to work in high stress/pressure environment with productivity standards expectations.
- Possible exposure to disease processes
Job Duties:
- Share personal recovery story to instill hope and understanding of recovery for individuals diagnosed with mental health and/or substance abuse diagnosis.
- Assist individuals in developing their own plans for recovery.
- Lead or co-lead peer-delivered recovery groups as assigned.
- Model appropriate and effective coping and self-help skills.
- Provide orientation and information about Pivotal programs
- Identify and engage individuals in the St. Joseph County community who are not currently connected to services through street outreach, shelters, and community centers.
- Establish rapport and trust with individuals experiencing substance use disorders (SUD) to reduce stigma and encourage help-seeking behavior.
- Provide non-clinical "emotional first aid" and stabilization for clients experiencing setbacks or high-stress situations.
- Educate clients on identifying triggers and developing healthy coping mechanisms or "wellness toolkits"
- Facilitate connections to mutual aid groups (e.g., AA, NA, SMART Recovery) and other pro-social community activities to increase social inclusion.
- Assist with transportation and assigned to ensure access to mental health and/or SUD services, as well as other needed community services
- Provide information and assistance in the following activities as assigned: preplanning, treatment planning, safety plans, self-determination, and alternatives to guardianship.
- Assist individuals with securing and maintaining entitlements (i.e. social security benefits, identification, birth cert. insurance, etc.)
- Advocate for individuals to ensure non- discrimination and community inclusion
- Educate and promote individual regarding personal self-help/care skills
- Provide case management related functions (linking, coordinating, monitoring, support, encouragement)
- Documentation is legible and submitted in a timely manner
- Attends all required trainings and staff meetings (e.g. team, clinical and in- services as specific to job responsibilities)
- Completes annual training log
- Reads email and listen to voicemail daily. Responds within 24 hours of receiving the messages, unless on leave.
Pay: $19.03 - $23.52 per hour
