Senior Electrical Design Engineer β Utility-Scale Microgrids
Overview
A fast-growing, venture-backed energy infrastructure company is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of utility-scale, behind-the-meter microgrids. This role will focus on developing electrical design packages for projects integrating solar, battery energy storage, switchgear, and power generation, while partnering with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to deliver reliable, high-performance energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop electrical single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring schedules, and system schematics
- Design and size conductors, switchgear, disconnects, and protection equipment across DC, LV, and MV systems
- Produce basis-of-design documentation and technical packages for the Engineer of Record (EOR)
- Design PV and BESS electrical collection systems, including inverter skids, combiner boxes, and MV collection
- Maintain drawing packages throughout design, procurement, and construction phases
- Support technical evaluation and selection of inverters, battery systems, and medium-voltage equipment
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure accurate, buildable designs
- Drive design quality, documentation accuracy, and timely project delivery
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline
- 3 years of experience designing utility-scale solar, battery storage, or power systems
- Experience producing electrical design packages, including single-line diagrams and equipment sizing
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical (or similar) and power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, or CYME
- Strong understanding of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and industry standards for renewable energy systems
- Experience sizing conductors, OCPD, disconnects, transformers, and switchgear across DC, LV, and MV systems
- Experience working with an Engineer of Record (EOR) and supporting construction-ready design documentation
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment
