Position Overview
The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for overseeing all logistics and documentation related to international import and export shipments of U.S. export-controlled goods subject to EAR and ITAR licensing. This role ensures compliance with federal, customs, and local regulations while facilitating the smooth movement of merchandise in and out of the country. The specialist will also serve as the primary point of contact for customs transactions at the manufacturing site, implementing work procedures to support timely delivery and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage the import and export clearance process, including preparation of accurate shipping documentation, customs declarations, and compliance with federal/customs regulations.
- Serve as the central point of contact for export and import customs transactions at the site.
- Interface with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies to ensure compliance and timely shipment clearance.
- Prepare, maintain, and audit import/export documentation, ensuring records are accurate and compliant.
- Submit Electronic Export Information (EEI) via the ACE portal for export transactions.
- Monitor shipments from origin to destination and resolve transit issues.
- Track and monitor import/export license utilization, decrement, and closure.
- Collaborate with Customs brokers for on-time clearance of imported goods.
- Assist the Trade Compliance Officer in determining jurisdiction and classifications (HTS, USML, ECCN) for goods and technologies.
- Develop and maintain classification methodologies to improve efficiency while ensuring accuracy.
- Support the MRO team by issuing MROs and coordinating shipments of 9801 U.S. Goods returns.
- Maintain detailed records of all import/export transactions, including clearance records, contracts, licenses, and freight/duty documents.
- Conduct timely audits of customs entries (7501) for compliance with documentation and regulations.
Qualifications & Education
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Business Administration or related discipline (required).
- Strong understanding and practical experience with U.S. import/export regulations (EAR, ITAR, OFAC, FDA).
- Experience with classification of goods (HTS, Schedule B, ECCN) at assembly and component levels.
- Hands-on experience submitting EEI via the ACE portal.
- Knowledge of recordkeeping requirements for compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Effective communication skills (oral and written).
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and drive on-time delivery goals.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $32.00 - $47.00 per hour
