What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fractional IT Leader position at Pinnacle Consulting & Recruitment?
Overview
We are partnering with a private equity-backed, multi-location retail platform to identify a Fractional IT Leader. This individual will serve as the senior-most technology resource, responsible for stabilizing and evolving the IT environment while aligning technology strategy to the broader growth and value creation plan.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who can operate strategically while also diving into execution across systems, infrastructure, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the IT leader for the business, owning technology strategy, execution, and day-to-day operations
- Assess current-state systems, infrastructure, and vendors; identify gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Partner with executive leadership and private equity stakeholders on technology roadmap, priorities, and investment planning
- Oversee and optimize a custom ERP environment supporting retail operations (inventory, POS, finance, etc.)
- Drive system integration, data visibility, and process standardization across locations
- Manage third-party vendors, MSPs, and application providers to ensure performance and accountability
- Lead or support key initiatives such as ERP optimization, reporting/analytics improvements, and infrastructure modernization
- Establish governance, security best practices, and scalable processes to support growth
Ideal Background
- Prior experience as a Head of IT / IT Director / Fractional CIO within a multi-site retail, distribution, or field-based business
- Strong experience working with private equity-backed companies; understands pace, reporting expectations, and value creation levers
- Experience supporting or optimizing custom or non-standard ERP systems (not just out-of-the-box platforms)
- Comfortable operating in lean environments with limited internal IT resources
- Hands-on across infrastructure, applications, and vendor management (not purely strategic)
- Experience supporting retail operations, POS systems, inventory management, or similar environments is highly preferred
What Success Looks Like
- Clear understanding of current-state environment and risks within the first 30β60 days
- Defined and prioritized technology roadmap aligned to business and PE objectives
- Improved stability, visibility, and accountability across core systems and vendors
- Scalable foundation to support continued growth across locations
