Veterinary Technician Instructor Location: Colorado Springs Campus

Schedule: 30 hours per week

Compensation: $45.39–$56.74/hour

Summary Instruct and implement the Veterinary Nursing Programs to educate students in accordance with curriculum standards and objectives. This position requires demonstrated large animal and equine experience.

Essential Functions

  • Implement and evaluate daily lesson plans, including scheduled activities and course materials
  • Plan instruction to meet specific learning objectives based on student needs and curriculum
  • Deliver lectures and practical demonstrations in group and individual settings
  • Monitor lab competencies and confirm skill levels using checklists
  • Track student attendance and coordinate with Program Director and Associate Director of Student Services when absences exceed thresholds
  • Meet with students to encourage retention and program completion
  • Maintain an 80% student success rate across all classes taught
  • Evaluate student performance and provide support to meet learning goals
  • Maintain accurate student grades and prepare final grades for transcripts
  • Arrange guest speakers, field trips, and visits to clinics and hospitals
  • May assist with externship visits and performance evaluations
  • Monitor classroom safety and ensure adherence to precautions

  • Read and comprehend educational and professional materials
  • Perform tasks from written, oral, and observational instruction
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats

Physical Tasks

  • Sort and file documents and forms
  • Demonstrate lifting and animal restraint techniques required of veterinary nurses
  • Perform procedures as outlined in the curriculum

Methods, Equipment, and Tools

  • Review and utilize relevant documents, forms, and reports
  • Operate standard veterinary equipment (e.g., anesthesia machines, monitors, surgical tools)
  • Use office equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers

Working Conditions

  • Work in classroom, lab, and office environments
  • Exposure to biohazardous materials (blood, feces, saliva, urine)
  • May require outdoor work in large animal enclosures
  • May involve use of radiography equipment

Control and Supervision

  • None

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an AVMA CVTEA-accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or CHEA
  • Three (3) years of practical experience in the veterinary field
  • Licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT)
  • Current license, certification, or designation as required by local, state, or federal law
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer applications
  • Large animal and equine experience is required
