Summary of job:

This leadership position is responsible for implementing the Main Street model of commercial revitalization for the Washington Blvd commercial corridor in Pigtown, based on the National Trust for Historic Preservation Four-Point Main Street Program, following the values and goals of Pigtown Main Street.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and attract new businesses to Pigtown Main Street that promote a balanced and sustainable business mix
  • Responsible for the successful execution of events that promote Pigtown businesses and community. The events are conducted in partnership and guidance from the Promotion Committee.
  • Oversee the Pigtown Festival Coordinator to plan and implement our Annual signature event
  • Work in partnership with Pigtown MS staff and volunteers to market events and businesses
  • Lead marketing and promotional efforts to enhance the visibility, foot traffic, investment, and community engagement.
  • Mobilize volunteers and other individuals and organizations to work with three committees, Promotions, Design, and Economic Vitality
  • Implement capital improvement projects along Washington Blvd. including façade grants. These projects are conducted in partnership and guidance from the Economic Vitality Committee.
  • Improve the aesthetic appeal of the commercial district to enhance and promote the image of Pigtown. These projects are conducted in partnership and guidance from the Design Committee.
  • Use speaking engagements, media interviews, and personal appearances to keep the organization and the corridor in the public eye
  • Help build strong and productive relationships with appropriate public agencies at the local and state levels.
  • Represent the community to important constituencies at the local, state, and national levels. Speak effectively on the program's directions and work, mindful of the need to improve state and national economic development policies as they relate to commercial districts.
  • Responsible for reports, reporting to and collaboration with the Baltimore Main Street program.
  • Create and maintain a list of financial programs and incentives offered by various entities, such as government economic development departments and the Small Business Administration
  • Follow the vision and work plans, as dictated through community input, for the commercial district.
  • Maintain the inventory and database of businesses, property owners, investors and partnerships that contribute to the Main Street program.
  • Build relationships amongst businesses, property owners, investors and partners that contribute to the success of the Main Street Program.
  • Work cooperatively with all Pigtown Main Street staff and committees as needed.
  • Staff Promotions & Design Committees
  • Represent PtMS at Citizens of Pigtown and other neighborhood meetings

Hours and Salary:

The position is a full time, salary position and pays up to $55,000 - $65,000 per a year. Benefits are not offered. A $600/month stipend is available for health insurance reimbursement along with $100/month reimbursable allowance for personal purchases at Pigtown Main Street businesses.

Required flexibility to accommodate occasional evening or weekend events and community and committee meetings

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Economic Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Marketing, Communications, or related field ; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
  • Preferred 3 years’ experience being involved in community, business and/or outreach initiatives either professionally or as a volunteer.
  • Proven experience organizing events evidenced by successful attendance and outcomes.
  • At least 1 year experience with volunteer management professionally or in a volunteer role.
  • A strong grasp of local commercial corridors importance and connection to neighborhood well-being.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills
  • Good conflict management and resolution skills, and comfort and familiarity working with people from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of experiences and points of view
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusiveness and equity.
  • Comfortable working on the ground and in the streets of the community.
  • Ability to establish priorities and multi-task.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement projects collaboratively and efficiently.
  • Comfort working with diverse individuals and partners.
  • Strong writing skills.
