This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 2-3 days per week in the office, with additional in-office time as business needs require. Please note that during the initial 6-month probationary period, this role will be fully in-office.

In this role, you may answer questions about payments, apply adjustments, refunds, appraisals, and apply valuations. You’ll also help taxpayers with property tax reduction applications, making sure all requirements under Washington State law are met.


Work involves reviewing forms and applications for completeness, entering data, performing routine calculations, and following established guidelines and procedures

The Assessor-Treasurer's Office is responsible for the mass appraisal of real and personal property in Pierce County for purposes of assessing property taxes. How to be Successful in the Role:

We are looking for someone who takes pride in delivering excellent customer service, follows directions well, and can work both independently and as part of a team. Reliability, strong problem-solving skills, the ability to anticipate needs, and a clear understanding that communication and customer service come first are essential. You should be detail-oriented, accurate, and computer savvy. Proficiency in multitasking and in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is also important.

Throughout the onboarding process, you will meet with the Supervisor, Lead, and the team regularly to discuss expectations, set goals, identify priorities, and gain familiarity with current policies, procedures, and strategic measures. Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and processes routine property-related forms, applications, and records following established procedures and guidelines, including RCWs, WACs, and County ordinances relevant to Assessor-Treasurer Office services.
  • Performs routine calculations and updates property values and taxes, including adjustments, recalculations, back taxes, refunds, depreciation costs, and supplemental assessments.
  • Assist in determining eligibility for various tax programs or exemptions, or appeals by following established guidelines, and explain decisions to taxpayers.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public and stakeholders, providing accurate information and guidance on property tax matters.
