Position Summary

We are seeking a Licensed Fire Sprinkler Fitter to join our commercial fire protection team in Montana. The Fire Sprinkler Fitter is responsible for the installation, modification, testing, repair, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems in commercial, educational, healthcare, and multi-family construction projects. The ideal candidate has a strong knowledge of fire protection systems, can read and interpret blueprints, and is committed to delivering high-quality workmanship while maintaining strict safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, and repair commercial fire sprinkler systems in accordance with project plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, and construction documents.
  • Measure, cut, thread, groove, assemble, and install sprinkler piping using approved tools and equipment.
  • Install sprinkler heads, valves, hangers, seismic bracing, backflow devices, fire department connections, and related system components.
  • Perform hydrostatic testing, flushing, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Coordinate work with general contractors, project managers, inspectors, and other trades to ensure timely project completion.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, Montana state requirements, and local building codes.
  • Ensure work is completed according to manufacturer specifications and company quality standards.
  • Identify field issues and communicate solutions to supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Operate lifts, ladders, power tools, and other construction equipment safely.
  • Complete required daily reports, inspection documentation, and material usage records.
  • Assist in training apprentices and less experienced installers.
  • Travel to various commercial job sites throughout Montana as required.

Qualifications

  • Current Montana Fire Sprinkler Fitter License.
  • Minimum 4 years of commercial fire sprinkler installation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • NFPA 13
  • NFPA 13R
  • NFPA 13D (preferred)
  • OSHA safety regulations
  • Commercial construction practices
  • Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and isometric drawings.
  • Experience with steel pipe, CPVC (where applicable), grooved piping systems, threaded pipe, and seismic bracing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently climb ladders, scaffolding, and work from aerial lifts.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights.

Required Certifications

  • Valid Montana Journeyman Fire Sprinkler Fitter License.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification (preferred).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check, if required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial new construction and tenant improvements.
  • Experience leading small crews or mentoring apprentices.
  • NICET certification (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge fire sprinkler systems.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of commercial fire protection projects throughout Montana while contributing to the safety and protection of people and property through high-quality fire sprinkler installations.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
