General Superintendent
Position Summary:
The General Superintendent oversees all field activities for Phoenix Electrical Technologies, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality. Serving as the operational link between project management and field execution, this role provides leadership to foremen, warehouse staff, and field personnel to achieve consistent productivity, schedule adherence, and client satisfaction across all projects. The General Superintendent sets expectations for the field culture, emphasizing safety, craftsmanship, and accountability.
Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)
KRA #1: Field Leadership and Workforce Management
Outcome: Consistent, high-performing field operations with engaged foremen and crews delivering projects on time and on budget.
Duties:
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate field supervisors, foremen, and field staff across multiple projects.
- Implement standardized field procedures, reporting tools, and communication structures.
- Coordinate with project managers to align manpower with project priorities.
- Support foremen with issue resolution, technical questions, and resource needs.
- Promote accountability and clear performance expectations at all field levels.
KRA #2: Project Execution and Quality Control
Outcome: Field installations meet Phoenix’s quality standards, design intent, and client expectations.
Duties:
- Review project schedules and progress with PMs to identify potential delays or risks.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor installation, productivity, quality and workmanship.
- Enforce adherence to contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Collaborate with PMs and estimators to ensure constructability and resource planning.
- Lead lessons-learned reviews and promote continuous improvement in field methods
KRA #3: Safety, Compliance, and Training
Outcome: A proactive, zero-incident safety culture across all field operations.
Duties:
- Partner with the Safety Manager to ensure compliance with all OSHA, NEC, and company safety standards.
- Conduct and document field safety audits; follow up on corrective actions.
- Support ongoing safety and technical training programs for field staff.
- Hold foremen accountable for daily and weekly safety meetings.
- Reinforce a culture of ownership around safety and compliance.
KRA #4: Scheduling and Resource Planning
Outcome: Efficient manpower, equipment, and material allocation ensuring smooth project execution.
Duties:
- Develop, maintain the master field labor schedule and forecast manpower needs.
- Balance workload among foremen and crews to maximize utilization.
- Coordinate with warehouse and procurement to align material delivery with field demand.
- Support preconstruction planning to validate field feasibility and schedule assumptions.
- Track and report on field productivity metrics.
KRA #5: Team Development and Culture
Outcome: A cohesive, motivated, and growing field workforce aligned with Phoenix’s mission and values.
Duties:
- Coach and develop foremen and field leaders for future advancement.
- Facilitate performance feedback and career path discussions.
- Reinforce Phoenix’s core values through communication, recognition, and accountability.
- Collaborate with HR and leadership on recruiting and onboarding field staff.
- Support company events, meetings, and initiatives that build team culture.
Qualifications
Experience & Education
- 10 years of progressive field experience in electrical construction, including supervision of multiple crews.
- Strong understanding of commercial and industrial electrical systems, NEC compliance, and installation practices.
- Prior experience as a Foreman, General Foreman, or Field Superintendent.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or construction management education preferred.
Skills
- Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in scheduling, resource planning, and field reporting tools.
- Deep knowledge of electrical construction safety standards.
- Ability to foster collaboration between office and field teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30 certification.
