The Solar Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and commissioning electrical systems associated with commercial and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. This position requires strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to lead and support crews in the field. All work must be performed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company safety policies.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, test, and commission electrical systems for solar PV installations, including inverters, combiner panels, switchgear, and grounding systems.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with project specifications.
- Ensure all work complies with NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, and all applicable state and local codes.
- Perform system testing, inspections, and troubleshooting to verify performance and identify deficiencies.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components to determine root cause and implement corrective action.
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, one-lines, and construction drawings.
- Direct and support apprentices and electrical workers in installation, maintenance, and safe work practices.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and job sites in a safe and organized condition.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and job site standards.
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of solar electrical experience (commercial or utility-scale preferred).
- Active Journeyman Electrician license as required by jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated experience installing and troubleshooting solar PV systems.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and components.
- Ability to meet and pass the company’s Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) criteria.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew in a fast-paced construction environment.
- NFPA 70E certification.
- Demonstrated understanding of basic electrical theory.
- Successful completion of Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) qualification process.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship program or equivalent field experience.
