Essential Knowledge And Skill Requirement
- Assist survey staff with field layout, staking, grade checking, production surveys, and as-built surveys.
- Support the setup, use, and maintenance of survey equipment, GPS rovers, data collectors, and related field tools.
- Assist with GPS machine control support, including field checks, layout verification, and basic troubleshooting under the direction of survey staff.
- Help verify field conditions, elevations, grades, locations, and construction progress as needed.
- Collect and record accurate field measurements, notes, and survey information.
- Assist with maintaining survey logs, field records, control files, reports, and as-built documentation.
- Review civil plans, specifications, drawings, and construction documents to support field layout and survey work.
- Communicate survey information clearly with survey staff, project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field crews.
- Assist with organizing survey equipment, stakes, tools, supplies, and jobsite materials.
- Work safely around active construction equipment, uneven terrain, traffic, and changing jobsite conditions.
- Support survey staff and field personnel as needed with GPS, layout, and basic survey-related tasks.
- Ability to perform a variety of duties, adapting to changes with accuracy.
- Frequently lift/carry objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting basic blueprints, instructions, and manuals.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow field direction.
- Basic mathematical skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with GPS/rover-based systems, Trimble equipment, data collectors, or conventional survey equipment preferred.
- Experience with CAD/modeling platforms such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, Trimble Business Center, or similar software is a plus.
- Work may involve dusty or dirty conditions.
- Exposure to hazardous materials, with appropriate personal protective equipment provided.
- Occasional night shifts and exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the role as part of qualification requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in surveying, geomatics, construction technology, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in surveying, construction layout, GPS, heavy civil construction, or related field work preferred.
