Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a construction/real estate client of ours. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with project accounting, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific accounting requirements. The ideal candidate has experience in job cost accounting, WIP (Work-in-Progress), and real estate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:General Accounting- Prepare and post daily journal entries to the general ledger
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and record depreciation
- Track and monitor job costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead
- Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion)
- Review and analyze project budgets vs. actuals
- Support project managers with financial reports and cost analysis
- Process vendor invoices and ensure proper coding to jobs/projects
- Assist with subcontractor payments, lien waivers, and compliance documentation
- Prepare and issue client invoices, including progress billing (AIA billing)
- Monitor collections and aging reports
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Support audits and tax preparation by maintaining accurate documentation
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific regulations
- Assist with internal controls and process improvements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2-5 years of accounting experience (construction or real estate preferred)
- CPA or CPA-track is a plus
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300/100, Yardi, QuickBooks, Viewpoint, or similar)
- Strong knowledge of job cost accounting and WIP reporting
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Experience with AIA billing and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Knowledge of construction contracts and cost structures
- Familiarity with multi-entity or multi-project accounting environments
