Turbine Maintenance Specialist
Project: Siemens SGT-300 Gas Turbine – 8 MW
Job Description / Key Responsibilities
- Performed maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support activities for a Siemens SGT-300, 8 MW gas turbine installed at an oil refinery facility.
- Participated in a major gas turbine control system retrofit project, involving the replacement of the existing Rustronic MK II control system with a modern Siemens S7-based control system.
- Supported the design, installation, integration, and functional testing of the upgraded turbine control system.
- Assisted in the implementation and integration of the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) for real-time turbine monitoring, operation, alarm management, and control.
- Supported the integration of the upgraded turbine control system with the plant SCADA system, enabling centralized monitoring, control, and data acquisition.
- Participated in loop checks, I/O verification, functional testing, commissioning, and start-up activities following the control system retrofit.
- Performed troubleshooting and fault diagnosis related to turbine control, instrumentation, electrical interfaces, and automation systems.
- Coordinated closely with instrumentation, electrical, automation, and mechanical teams throughout retrofit, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
- Supported the verification of control logic, interlocks, alarms, permissives, and protective functions to ensure safe and reliable turbine operation.
- Assisted in identifying and resolving control-system and instrumentation issues during commissioning and operational phases.
- Ensured proper documentation of maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities in accordance with project and site requirements.
- Contributed to maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the SGT-300 gas turbine following the control system upgrade.
- Worked in accordance with applicable HSE procedures, site safety requirements, and technical standards throughout maintenance and commissioning activities.
Required Experience / Technical Competencies
- Hands-on experience with Siemens SGT-300 gas turbines or similar industrial gas turbine systems.
- Practical experience in gas turbine control systems, instrumentation, and automation.
- Experience with Siemens S7 PLC-based control systems.
- Familiarity with HMI and SCADA systems and their integration with industrial control systems.
- Experience in control system retrofit, commissioning, troubleshooting, and functional testing.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, P&IDs, I/O lists, and instrumentation documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in turbine control and instrumentation systems.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams in oil & gas and refinery environments.
