Duties
- Provide daily care for shelter dogs, including kennel cleaning and sanitation, feeding, watering and socialization
- Handle dogs safely using proper restraint techniques and animal handling skills to ensure safety for both animals, staff and volunteers
- Clean kennels, exercise yards, and common areas to maintain a hygienic environment that promotes health and comfort
- Observe and record animal behavior, health status, and any changes to inform veterinary assessments and record keeping processes
- Assist potential adopters to achieve successful adoptions
- Help with intake and discharge procedures, including record documentation and client communication when necessary
- Participate in training on animal husbandry practices, pet care standards, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to uphold safety protocols
Skills
- Shelter/Kennel experience, veterinary clinic experience and job-related canine handling background required
- Veterinary clinic or veterinary technician experience desirable
- Strong understanding of animal anatomy, behavior, and welfare principles to ensure compassionate treatment
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members about pet care needs and shelter protocols
- Skilled in record keeping related to animal health, behavior observations, and treatment history
- Capable of performing cleaning duties efficiently while maintaining safety standards using PPE at all times
