We are seeking an experienced Senior Plans Examiner to serve as a technical leader within a Community Development and Building Services organization. This role performs advanced commercial and residential plan reviews, ensuring compliance with building, structural, mechanical, energy, and accessibility codes while supporting safe and efficient development throughout the community.
This position serves as a key resource for developers, architects, engineers, contractors, building officials, inspectors, and community stakeholders while helping improve permitting processes, interpreting complex code requirements, and supporting the delivery of high-quality customer service.

Key Responsibilities
Building Plan Review & Code Compliance
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of commercial and residential building plans, specifications, engineering calculations, and construction documents.
- Ensure compliance with building, structural, mechanical, energy, fire, and accessibility codes.
- Interpret and apply local, state, and federal regulations governing construction and development.
Leadership & Technical Expertise
- Serve as a senior technical resource and mentor for plans examiners, inspectors, and permit review staff.
- Review work products for quality assurance and consistency.
- Assist with code interpretation, policy development, and process improvements.
Development Review & Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with developers, architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and public agencies throughout the permit review process.
- Coordinate with Planning, Engineering, Public Works, Fire Prevention, Utilities, and Building Services teams.
- Resolve complex development and code compliance issues.
Community Development & Public Service
- Support community growth through efficient permit review and development services.
- Conduct site visits and field reviews when necessary.
- Prepare technical reports, recommendations, code updates, and public information materials.
- Assist with public outreach, training, and customer education efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in plan review, building inspection, construction, architecture, engineering, or code compliance.
- Three (3) years of direct building code compliance experience.
- One (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
- ICC Certified Plans Examiner certification upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
- Municipal, County, Public Agency, or Community Development experience.
- Additional ICC certifications (Building Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Energy Plans Examiner, etc.).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Registered Architect (RA) designation.
