Peoplelink Staffing, in partnership with a prominent distributor in the Chesterfield, VA area, is seeking a Yard Jockey to join their team!

Yard Jockey Job Summary:

• Pay: $21 an hour
• Shifts Available:
  • 2nd Shift: 330pm to Midnight

The Yard Jockey bridges the gap between warehouse logistics and incoming over-the-road (OTR) truck drivers. Operating a specialized terminal tractor (or yard truck), this role moves dropped trailers into loading docks, organizes empty or full units, and keeps the yard traffic moving smoothly without bottlenecks.

Yard Jockey Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED is required
• Class A CDL
• Forklift preferred but not required
• Heavy Lifting

Yard Jockey Duties:

• Trailer Maneuvering: Operate yard trucks to precisely position semi-trailers to and from warehouse loading docks.
• Yard Optimization: Maintain a highly organized lot, separating empty and loaded trailers to clear bottlenecks and prevent traffic jams.
• Equipment Hookups: Connect and disconnect brake airlines and electrical lines, and use hydraulic truck levers to adjust trailer height without manual cranking.
• Safety Inspections: Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections on yard trucks, and check trailers for damage or structural issues.
• Logistics Communication: Use radios or digital yard management systems to coordinate with dispatchers, gate guards, and warehouse workers.
• Fleet Maintenance: Perform basic upkeep such as refueling yard trucks, power washing trailers, or cleaning truck cabs
