The Freight Import Specialist is responsible for coordinating the full lifecycle of international import shipments, including customs entry writing, regulatory compliance, and customer service. This role requires strong knowledge of U.S. import procedures, documentation, and customs regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Import Operations
- Manage the full import process from shipment pre-alert through final delivery
- Coordinate with overseas agents, carriers, truckers, and warehouses
- Track and trace shipments, ensuring timely updates to customers
- Arrange delivery appointments and inland transportation
- Monitor shipment milestones and resolve delays or exceptions
Customs Entry Writing
- Prepare and submit accurate customs entries in compliance with U.S. Customs regulations
- Classify goods using HTS codes and ensure proper valuation
- Review commercial documents (commercial invoices, packing lists, BOL/AWB)
- Ensure compliance with government agencies (FDA, USDA, etc. where applicable)
- Handle entry summaries, duty calculations, and billing
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all import documentation meets regulatory requirements
- Maintain audit-ready shipment files
- Stay current with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations
- Identify and escalate compliance risks
Customer Service
- Serve as the primary point of contact for import clients
- Provide proactive shipment updates and issue resolution
- Build strong client relationships through reliable service
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in freight forwarding or customs brokerage (import-focused)
- Experience with customs entry writing required
- Knowledge of U.S. import regulations and HTS classification
- Familiarity with freight forwarding systems (CargoWise preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
