People Architects is excited to recruit a Staff Accountant for one of our manufacturing clients. The ideal person is someone who wants to understand what’s behind the numbers and really help improve how the business runs.


Position Summary:

This is a hands-on role where you’ll take ownership of key parts of the monthly close, including accounts receivable, fixed assets, journal entries, and reconciliations. Just as importantly, you’ll dig into the “why” behind the results by helping to surface insights, spot trends, and flag opportunities to tighten up processes and improve performance.

Responsibilities

  • Process and post customer payments, including credit card transactions, discounts, and adjustments.
  • Manage collection activities, including customer outreach and payment plan coordination.
  • Monitor accounts for prepayment requirements and service holds related to non-payment.
  • Support monthly accounts receivable aging reviews and recommend write-offs when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with third-party collection agencies as needed.
  • Prepare and post accurate journal entries.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and research variances.
  • Support month-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Track capital expenditures and ensure proper accounting treatment, including CIP and accrual
  • classifications.
  • Prepare and record monthly depreciation entries.
  • Analyze monthly financial results and provide clear variance explanations, root-cause analysis, and business impact commentary.
  • Partner with Operations, Sales, HR, and other departments to gather context and support accurate financial reporting.
  • Provide insights that help inform management decision-making.
  • Maintain and document accounting procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and process enhancements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of internal controls that promote accurate financial reporting, compliance, and asset protection.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes and controls.


Qualifications (Required and Preferred):

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and month-end close processes.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Experience with accounts receivable, collections, and aging analysis.
  • Experience with Intacct or similar ERP platforms.
  • Experience in healthcare, laboratory, or other regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated success improving processes, implementing automation, or enhancing financial systems.
  • Experience developing SOPs, internal controls, and compliance-focused procedures.
  • Ability to translate financial data into meaningful business insights for cross-functional stakeholders.
