The Wellness Teacher is responsible for delivering comprehensive health and wellness education to middle and high school students in accordance with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Health Education. This role supports students’ physical, social, emotional, and mental well-being, helping them develop lifelong skills for healthy decision-making, self-awareness, and personal responsibility.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Wellness, Physical Education, Public Health, Education, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworks and trauma-informed practices.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and wellness-related issues.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary student support teams.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Educator License.
- SEI Endorsement.
- Ability and willingness to coach a sport is preferred.
Reports to: MSHS Principal
Performance Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and deliver age-appropriate wellness and health education instruction for grades 7–12 in alignment with Massachusetts DESE Health Education Frameworks.
- Teach topics including, but not limited to: physical health, mental and emotional wellness, nutrition, substance use prevention, personal safety, social-emotional learning, healthy relationships, and decision-making skills.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages respectful discussion, student engagement, and personal reflection.
- Assess student learning using formative and summative assessments and maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including students with IEPs and 504 plans.
- Collaborate with school counselors, adjustment counselors, school nurses, and administrators to support student wellness initiatives.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, curriculum planning, and school-wide wellness programs as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding curriculum, student progress, and wellness-related initiatives.
Work Year: Full-time, School Year.
Salary/Benefits: Benefits consistent with the PAT contract.
