Job Summary: Pembroke Hill School seeks a joyful, dedicated educator to join its lower school team for the 2026-27 school year. In partnership with a full-time assistant, the teacher leads a homeroom of up to 22 students. In addition to teaching language arts, math, and social studies, they support each student's social-emotional and executive function development and maintain clear, positive, and ongoing communication with each student's family.
The ideal candidate will model the school's core values of respect, compassion, scholarship and integrity in all aspects of their professional lives and demonstrate a commitment to Pembroke Hill's mission statement - Together, cultivating the best in each, for the benefit of all. The individual will display a passion for working with intermediate grade students and an understanding of their developmental needs, as well as a growth mindset.
Schedule : Teaching positions are based on the school year (August through May). During the school year, there are three school breaks -one week at Thanksgiving, two weeks in December, and two weeks in March - plus holidays, personal and sick days.
Compensation : Compensation will be based on a competitive norm influenced by local non profit as well as peer independent schools in the nation, using work experience and education. Transcripts and verification of employment will be required. Benefits include health, dental, retirement match (up to 8%), paid sick time, disability and life insurance, professional development opportunities, PHS tuition remission, free lunch, and more!

- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods. For elementary and lower school, sit on the floor for extended periods of time.
- Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone
- Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
- Physical ability to lift, carry and/or hold up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
- Ability to occasionally balance, reach, bend, squat, stoop, or kneel
- Ability to climb stairs, walk, and occasionally run, if required
Qualifications And Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required; education related or equivalent experience in education.
- Master's degree preferred.Minimum of two years experience as a lead teacher at the elementary level.
- Demonstrated ability and comfort level with various technology skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with children, families and colleagues.
- Experience with the 6 1 Traits of Writing preferred.
- Knowledge of research on the science of reading and its application.
- Experience leading and directing an assistant in the classroom is preferred.
- Understand a holistic view of children, have an understanding of the developmental issues of elementary students, a passion for integrated learning and a thorough understanding of differentiation.
