Machine Operators for Extrusion Process (MOEP)
Position Summary: The MOEP run and manager the extrusion equipment compounds, by set up twin screw extrusion equipment, combining resins and other raw material (Batch Making). Will be responsible for carrying out the production of and helping to improve quality, reduce scrap to meet all task and cycle time requirements. Operates equipment, cleans and maintains equipment and work documents. May work on new products, processes, test methods, create or update instructions, supports and provides training efforts. Knowledge of ISO 9001 and GMP standards or other documents, or quality projects pertaining to custom and proprietary compounds a must.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare materials for extrusion, including weighing, mixing, and loading into the extruder.
- Set up, operate, and maintain twin screw extruders, including material loading, temperature adjustments, and die changes.
- Identify and resolve issues with extrusion processes, such as material inconsistencies, equipment malfunctions, or quality problems.
- Inspect and monitor extruded products for defects, ensuring they meet specifications and customer requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of production runs, material usage, and any adjustments made to the extrusion process.
- Performs set-up, testing, repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of all area-specific equipment, materials, systems and or products. Troubleshoots and solves problems requiring interpretation of procedures and practices. Analyses situations or data to identify issues and trends.
- Plans, organizes, and prioritizes own daily work routine to meet established schedule and assigned tasks or projects.
- Communicates as a team member with other functional groups as well as with internal customers. May contact outside vendors as part of job responsibilities.
Physical Demands:
- Position requires operating vacuum and shaker tables, gala equipment, extrusion machines, dryers and crystallizers
- Working with surface heights above 15”, Lifting, pulling, or pushing up to 65 pounds, Standing 8-plus hours per day
- Exposure to hazards can include energy isolation, electricity, pinch points, moving machine parts, and fork truck traffic
Qualifications:
- Experienced mechanical, polymer, or plastics engineering or other related engineering field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a plastics manufacturing environment, preferably Polymer compounding
- Strong technical background in plastics, resins, and material handling
- Proven problem-solving ability, good documentation skills, and good manufacturing practices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Exhibit a "can do" attitude, fostering a team environment where all customer expectations are met with enthusiasm and dedication
