Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues using Ford diagnostic tools (IDS, FDRS)
- Perform advanced repairs on engines, transmissions, drivetrains, and electronic systems
- Interpret technical service bulletins (TSBs) and wiring diagrams
- Conduct vehicle inspections and ensure repairs meet Ford standards
- Mentor and assist junior technicians
- Complete warranty repairs according to Ford policies and documentation requirements
- Stay current with Ford training and certification requirements
- Test drive vehicles to verify concerns and confirm repairs
- Ford Master Certification (or working toward it through Ford STARS training)
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with computerized diagnostic equipment
- Deep knowledge of:
- Powertrain systems
- Electrical and computer systems
- Hybrid/electric vehicle technology (increasingly important)
- Ability to read schematics and service manuals
- Valid driver’s license
- ASE certifications (often required or preferred)
- Typically 5 years of automotive technician experience
- Prior Ford dealership experience preferred
- Proven track record of completing complex repairs efficiently
- Ford STARS (Specialized Technical Automotive Repair Skills)
- ASE Certifications (A1–A8, L1, etc.)
