As a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Field Engineer, you’ll be the person who bridges design and reality—keeping instrumentation and SIS work aligned, safe, and done right at a chemical manufacturing site.
Senior Instrumentation & Controls Field Engineer (SIS)
Location: Luling, LA
Job Type: Temp‑to‑Hire (W2)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: 60.00 – 65.00/hour neg
Position Overview
Provide field-based instrumentation and functional safety engineering support
Support capital and sustaining projects in a chemical manufacturing environment
Serve as a field engineer during construction, commissioning, and startup
Support Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety initiatives
Key Responsibilities
Support instrumentation design and specification activities
Perform instrument selection and control valve specification
Develop and update instrument specification sheets, loop sheets, and wiring diagrams
Review and mark up P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical drawings
Prepare cable schedules, instrument indices, and material takeoffs
Perform field walks to assess existing instrumentation and site conditions
Support construction activities through field engineering and contractor oversight
Perform QA/QC to ensure installations meet design, safety, and quality requirements
Assist with commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities
Coordinate instrumentation-related changes with the site DCS team
Communicate progress, issues, and risks with project and site leadership
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong hands-on experience with instrumentation systems in the field
Experience working in chemical plants or refinery environments
Knowledge of:
24VDC, 120VAC, and 480VAC systems
4–20 mA, 0–5 VDC, and 0–10 VDC signals
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical drawings
Strong communication and documentation skills
Ability to work independently in a field-based role
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
Minimum 8 years of instrumentation engineering experience
Prior field engineering or construction support experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
Knowledge of SIL, SRS, or IEC 61508
Experience supporting PHA or functional safety programs
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work performed at active chemical plant and construction sites
Required PPE includes steel-toe boots, hardhat, gloves, and safety glasses
Ability to climb stairs or ladders up to 4 ft
Combination of field work and engineering documentation
Driving limited to company-provided vehicles on site

Pay Details: 60.00 to 65.00 per hour
