Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using manual handling techniques and patient transfer methods like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor patient health by taking vital signs, observing for changes in condition, and reporting findings accurately to healthcare professionals.
- Support medication administration following prescribed care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal consumption when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and ensuring infection control protocols are followed.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, fostering positive social interactions for residents with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, autism, or other developmental disabilities.
- Assist with transportation needs within the community or facility, including escorting clients to appointments or activities using appropriate safety procedures.
- Support hospice or palliative care efforts by offering compassionate presence and personal support aligned with care plans.
Experience
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to perform patient observation, monitor vital signs, and recognize signs of distress or deterioration.
- Experience working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism or intellectual disabilities supports success in this role.
- Knowledge of dementia care, memory care techniques, and Alzheimer's-specific strategies is advantageous.
- Familiarity with manual handling equipment like Hoyer lifts and patient transfer methods ensures safe assistance.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is required; additional training in hospice care or geriatrics is a plus.
- Strong communication skills for client interaction and collaboration with healthcare teams are essential for providing personalized support.
