Safety Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop, implement, and maintain Safety Action Plans focused on preventing accidents, incidents, and property damage.
- Prepare and enforce Job-Specific Health and Safety Plans in compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the daily submission of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) from all crews, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Track, review, and investigate all accidents, incidents, and damages, including conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions.
- Identify trends or unsafe behaviors and recommend safeguards, training, or procedural changes to mitigate risk.
- Manage and mentor safety staff while maintaining clear, consistent communication with area management.
- Monitor active job sites to ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA standards and internal safety policies.
- Ensure all crews adhere to customer-specific and environmental requirements.
- Oversee daily safety reporting and documentation.
- Proactively address job-site safety issues and communicate resolutions to Project or Safety leadership.
- Maintain all required safety documentation and records.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Enforce accountability by addressing unsafe actions or conditions immediately and providing corrective instruction.
- Conduct safety meetings as needed and ensure daily and weekly safety meetings are being properly executed.
- Assist with the completion of accident and injury reports.
- Ensure the company inspection program remains OSHA-compliant and is updated as regulations evolve.
- Administer random and post-accident drug testing in accordance with company policy.
Position Requirements & Qualifications
- OSHA 500 or 510 (with 502) obtained within the last five years.
- HAZWOPER certification preferred.
- CHST certification required.
- Minimum of 5 years of construction experience; high school diploma required.
- Ability to work effectively with customers, union personnel, and internal project management teams while maintaining a professional presence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and a strong work ethic.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Ability to train, coach, and develop employees.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed for accident response or project support, including overnight stays (approximately 20%).
- Ability to complete additional training as required.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving work environment while continuously identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.
