JOB SUMMARY & EXPECTATIONS:
The Vice President of Education is responsible for the development, scheduling, and implementation of education related projects, services, and activities for PBS Reno. This person is a highly effective communicator who has demonstrated experience in teaching, administration, budgeting, strategic planning, and project management; is creative, personable, strategic, thoughtful, and passionate about public television and its role in education and is a member of PBS Reno’s senior management group. The VP of Education works collaboratively with senior management to support overall station policies, goals, budgets, and objectives and helps to maintain a positive and engaging work environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares the department’s budget and participates in the annual station budgeting process.
- Operates the department within the set budgets.
- Works with Senior Management Team in setting overall goals and objectives for the station as a whole and as it relates to the Education department.
- Participates in preparation of applications for funding of Education projects through grants and other sources.
- Collaborates with schools, school districts, community groups and stakeholders to promote PBS Reno educational resources.
- Conducts on-going assessments within the PBS Reno viewing area to identify and prioritize Education projects.
- Provides oversight and direction to the Education staff in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
- Coaches, mentors, and develops staff members, including involvement in new employee hiring and onboarding and provides career development planning and opportunities.
- Oversees the recruitment of Education Department facilitators.
- Develops and distributes Education resource materials to schools, teachers, and community organizations.
- Works closely with other PBS Reno departments to promote and deliver PBS educational resources.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered):
- Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field required, master’s degree preferred.
- Successful teaching and education-administration experience; experience in Pre-K-12th grade school preferred.
- Proven skill in verbal and written communication, supervisory skills, budget development and management skills, interpersonal skills, project management experience, project evaluation, and an understanding of grant writing and project fundraising.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Knowledge of public television and PBS Reno’s on air and online educational mission and services.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Self-directed with the ability to work with minimal supervision and proactively meet deadlines.
- Ability to manage remote team members and facilitators.
- Familiarity with PreK-12 education system, Common Core Standards, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS), Nevada Pre-K Standards, and educational technology.
- Successful classroom experience preferred.
- Familiarity with online learning and professional development.
