Position Summary
The Senior Grants Manager plays a critical role in securing and sustaining institutional funding to support the mission of Pathways to Housing DC. This position leads the full lifecycle of grant development and management, including identifying funding opportunities, coordinating proposal development, preparing reports, and maintaining strong relationships with institutional funders.
The role calls for a strategic, deeply organized professional who not only excels in writing and project management but understands the power of storytelling to forge meaningful relationships. As a Senior Grants Manager, this individual becomes a bridge, translating the agency’s mission, history, and future vision into narratives that resonate with funders and inspire long‑term partnerships.
Working collaboratively across program, finance, and leadership teams, the Senior Grants Manager brings together diverse voices and insights to craft proposals that are not just compliant and compelling, but human and memorable. This position contributes directly to the organization’s ability to expand programs and services that support individuals experiencing and recovering from homelessness in the Washington, DC region
Responsibilities
Grant Development and Communication
- Research and identify new institutional funding opportunities across foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Develop and write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding requests.
- Prepare timely and accurate grant reports that communicate program outcomes and organizational impact.
- Maintain ongoing communication with funders to ensure strong stewardship and relationship management.
Grants Management and Coordination
- Manage the organization’s grants calendar and ensure the timely submission of all proposals, reports, and renewal applications.
- Coordinate proposal development across departments by gathering program data, budgets, and supporting materials.
- Track and monitor grant performance, deadlines, and deliverables to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
Financial Oversight and Compliance
- Develop and manage grant budgets in collaboration with program and finance teams.
- Ensure grant activities comply with funder guidelines and organizational policies.
- Support accurate financial reporting and documentation related to institutional funding.
Research and Strategy
- Conduct research to identify new funding prospects aligned with Pathways to Housing DC’s mission and programs.
- Monitor trends in philanthropy, housing policy, and funding opportunities to inform strategy.
- Contribute to strategies that diversify and strengthen the organization’s institutional funding portfolio.
Collaboration and Organizational Support
- Partner with program staff, finance, and leadership to ensure accurate program representation in grant proposals.
- Foster strong working relationships across departments to support proposal development and reporting.
- Support organizational fundraising initiatives and cross-functional projects as needed.
Systems and Data Management
- Maintain accurate grant records within donor management systems and grant tracking tools.
- Utilize platforms such as donor databases, grant portals, and internal collaboration tools to manage workflows and documentation.
- Ensure organized digital files and compliance with data security and recordkeeping standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in grants management, grant writing, or institutional fundraising within the nonprofit or public sector.
- Demonstrated success in developing and managing grant proposals for foundations, corporations, or government agencies.
- Strong written communication, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
Preferred
- Experience working in housing, homelessness services, or human services organizations.
- Experience working with donor management systems (e.g.,Bloomerang) or grant management platforms.
- Familiarity with government grant processes and compliance requirements.
