Pathway Talent Partners has been engaged by a private, St. Paul–based golf club to identify a Controller to lead the organization’s accounting and financial operations. This role is ideal for a hands‑on accounting leader who enjoys working in a member‑centric environment and partnering closely with club leadership.
Position Overview
The Controller will oversee all accounting activities for the club, including financial reporting, budgeting, audit coordination, and internal controls. This individual will play a key role in ensuring financial integrity while supporting operational decision‑making for the club’s management team and board.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing forecast updates
- Coordinate annual audit and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Develop, document, and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
- Partner with club leadership on financial analysis, capital planning, and operational initiatives
- Manage and mentor accounting staff or outsourced accounting resources
- Support board reporting, including financial packages and presentations as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
- Prior experience in a club, nonprofit, hospitality, or membership‑based organization strongly preferred
- CPA or CMA a plus, but not required
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Hands‑on, detail‑oriented leadership style with the ability to operate at both strategic and transactional levels
- Experience working with accounting systems and Excel‑based reporting
