Teacher Special Education

Qualifications

• Must have appropriate certification-New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification or Teacher of the Handicapped Certification
• Experience working with elementary students with special needs, primarily students with a diagnosis of autism or a pervasive development disorder.
• Ability to modify curriculum and provide individualized instruction based upon IEP goals and objectives
• Ability to motivate and work in teams to achieve academic expectations
• Able to work collaboratively with school leaders and school staff to collect, analyze, and use data to continuously modify the instructional program
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with students, staff, parents, administrators, and the community
• Ability to provide a nurturing, supportive and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines and effective classroom management skills
• Knowledge of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards
• Excellent classroom management
