Sales Associate and Barista - Bakery

At Pastries A-La-Carte, we pride ourselves on the marriage of artistry and taste represented in our products; our reputation throughout the Pittsburgh area reflects this emphasis. As a result, we are the official bake shop for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

We are excited to be gearing up to offer coffee, latte, and more in the near future, and are seeking Front of House team members to make and sell these items alongside our existing product line. As a member of our Bakery Sales Team, you will shape our guests' experience with the bakeshop, thus positioning you as a highly valued and valuable member of our team!

As part of the sales team, your primary focus will be to assist customers and meet sales goals. Ideal candidates will be able to work Saturdays and have a flexible schedule. Candidates must also be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and to be on your feet the majority of your shift. Applicants should be age 16 .

Full and Part Time positions available.

Responsibilities include:

• Operating our point-of-sale system
• Using automatic commercial espresso machine and coffee machine to grind beans, dispense hot and iced drinks of various types
• Understanding and upholding food safety and sanitation practices
• Assisting guests, including answering questions and suggesting additional items for purchase
• Accurately taking and recording orders either in-person or via phone
• Becoming knowledgeable about our product line
• Bridging the gap between customers and decorating staff in taking requests for inscriptions to be written on cakes or taking orders, both in-person and over the phone
• Maintaining a storefront that is clean, full of product, and attractively merchandised throughout your shift
• Striving to meet daily sales goals
• Following bakery policies and procedures, inclusive of store opening or closing procedures
• Other duties as assigned

Sales Associates are required to exhibit strength in or aptitude to learn the following:

• Customer Service/Sales
• Food safety and hygiene; ServSafe certification preferred
• Standing and/or walking for the duration of your shift
• Lifting 25 lbs and carrying trays filled with product between locations
• Following directions
• Maintaining a clean and organized workspace
• Working independently and as part of a team
• Available to work during holiday seasons, with the understanding that additional hours will be required during these times (though we are closed for most major holidays)
