What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at Partnership Employment?
An established manufacturing company in Western Massachusetts is looking for a Senior Cost Accountant to join its finance team. You'll be the go-to resource for product costing, manufacturing variances, inventory, and cost-saving analysis while also getting exposure to budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, and broader plant finance.
This isn't a role where you're just pulling reports. The team wants someone who can dig into the numbers, understand why costs are moving, and work directly with operations to turn that information into better business decisions.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own and maintain standard costing for the manufacturing operation
- Analyze material, labor, overhead, usage, and other manufacturing variances
- Partner with plant and operations teams to understand cost drivers and identify opportunities for savings
- Review BOMs, routings, labor rates, and other inputs impacting product costs
- Support inventory accounting, valuation, reserves, and reconciliations
- Track cost-saving initiatives and help measure their actual financial impact
- Support monthly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and manufacturing-related reporting
- Prepare analysis around plant performance, margins, production activity, and cost trends
- Participate in annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting
- Develop reporting that gives leadership better visibility into manufacturing performance
- Support ROI and cost-benefit analysis for operational and capital projects
- Identify opportunities to automate or improve existing accounting and reporting processes
- Assist with additional general accounting activities as part of the broader finance team
Salary : $90,000 - $120,000
