ABOUT THE ROLE:
SUMMARY:
Oversees the staff responsible for the billing and collection of insurance claims and patient fees.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will directly supervise some of the billing staff:
- Junior Claims Analyst
- Inpatient Billing Supervisor
- Patient Account Specialist
- Patient Account Analyst
- Senior Claims Analyst
- Contract Claims Analyst
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Duties and Responsibilities reflect the general details considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all related work assignments that may be inherent to the job.
- Supervise Business Office staff (remote, in office, and hybrid) and billing related operations/systems.
- Responsible for billing and collection processes for insurance claims and patient fees.
- Resolve issues affecting billing and/or collections by communicating with other department managers, Business Office staff, insurance companies, etc. Find and implement timely and logical solutions.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings.
- Coordinate cross-training of staff; each duty should be able to be performed by at least two staff.
- Responsible for timely review of EHR data to ensure accurate reporting of revenue by the Controller on a monthly basis.
- Responsible for maintenance of EHR for billing related items (payers, fee schedules, billing rules, provider co-signatures, billing provider, etc.)
- Stay current on billing requirements as set by Medicaid, Medicare, and other insurance payers. Proactively implement new processes or procedures prior to effective date.
- Keep Controller informed of day-to-day operations including accomplishments, problems and solutions, and staff issues.
- Maintain no more than a 5% annual accrual in overtime hours.
- Maintain departmental budget.
- Performs other duties as required by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in related field.
- Certification in Medical Billing and Coding.
- Working knowledge of CPT codes, HCPCS codes, HCFA 1500 and UB-04 billing forms, 837I and 837P electronic billing formats, Medicaid, Medicare, and Commercial insurance billing rules for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health claims.
- Maturity and sensitivity to the special needs of those who have a co-occurring mental health and/or substance use disorder.
- Ability to utilize and navigate an electronic health record.
- Knowledge of Agency values, approach and services
- Ability to give directions, instructions and information to staff members.
- Communicate effectively with clients and other employees.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid Class E Drivers’ License for positions that require driving personal or Agency vehicle on Agency business.
- Must maintain a minimum Bodily Injury & Property Liability insurance limit of at least $50,000 for positions that require driving personal own vehicle (POV) on Agency business. (Proof Required)
- PPBH is a 24/7 Agency. All employees must be available as needed when required.
