Panhandle Health District’s Hayden office is in search of a full-time Associate Epidemiologist.

The Associate Epidemiologist supports the District’s epidemiology program through disease surveillance, epidemiologic investigations, data analysis, and public health response activities. Working under the guidance of Staff Epidemiologists and the Epidemiology & Emergency Preparedness Manager, this position assists with identifying disease trends, investigating public health concerns, and supporting evidence-based public health interventions. This position develops applied epidemiology skills through participation in communicable disease investigations, surveillance activities, emergency response, community outreach, and public health initiatives. The Associate Epidemiologist collaborates with internal programs, healthcare partners, state and local public health agencies, and community organizations to support the District’s mission of protecting and improving population health.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Associate degree, some college coursework in a related field, or equivalent experience required. A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of disease processes, prevention strategies, and familiarity with routine lab values (CBC, CMP, Liver Panels)
  • Experience with public speaking, delivering presentations, and basic data interpretation; familiarity with survey methods and basic statistical analysis is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document case investigations and assist with subgrant reports
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with basic biostatistical methods; experience with statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SQL) is a plus
  • Prior healthcare experience, such as in nursing, phlebotomy, medical assisting, or other clinical or public health settings, is preferred
  • Valid driver's license (Idaho or Washington) or ability to obtain one if relocating
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (IS)100, 700 within one (1) month of employment

Physical Requirements:

Due to the need for all Health Department personnel to respond to public health emergencies, the employee must be assessed for his/her ability to meet the physical demands of performing the following activities:

  • Engage in the following movements: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and writing and repetitive motions.
  • To move objects, exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
  • Visual ability must be sufficient to read typewritten documents, computer screens, and drive a car
