Position Description

The Physician is responsible for providing direct patient care across a wide variety of medical problems, with emphasis on preventive care and management of chronic disease. This includes diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care, in addition to healthy lifestyle promotion within the five counties of northern Idaho. Core clinic services include primary care, reproductive health, women’s health, and preventive health. Pediatrics currently represents about 10% of practice, but there are opportunities for growth in this area. Training or experience in public health is not required. Job Duties

• Interpretation of laboratory tests and follow-up with patients for abnormal results and health problems
• Longitudinal follow-up of patients across many age groups
• Informed consent and individualized recommendations for people seeking vaccinations
• Ability to address social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs of patients that may impact treatment adherence, including mental health and substance abuse issues
• Collaboration with administrators in activities and practices that contribute to the efficient use of resources
• Meet regularly with leadership to review the financial performance of clinic services, evidence-based medical practices, and patient visit quality standards.
• Assist leadership in determining the proper focus and program direction of the clinics based on patient and individual county needs
• Provide oversight and teaching to MA’s and nursing staff in clinics
• Willingness to participate in teaching activities of healthcare professionals, including medical residents, as needed
• Complete all required screenings as required by grant funding sources
• Travel to outlying clinics required. Outlying clinics include Sandpoint, Kellogg, Bonner’s Ferry, and St. Maries, Idaho
• Other duties as assigned and consistent with job classification

Qualifications and Proficiencies

• An Idaho MD or DO license is required through the Idaho Board of Medicine
• Idaho Board of Pharmacy prescribing privileges
• BLS certification; NRP, PALS, or ACLS
• Proficient in independent direct patient care, including medical evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients, often with complex medical problems. On-the-job orientation training available during probationary period
• Proficiency with typing and willingness to independently enter data into electronic health record
• Must be an effective communicator with patients, colleagues, staff, and leadership and be able to effectively communicate with patients by phone and/or remote conferencing
• Driver's license (Idaho or Washington)
• National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (IS)100, 700 within one (1) month of employment

Physical Requirements:

Because all Health Department personnel are required to respond to public health emergencies, employees must be able to perform the following activities:
