Duties
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including patient history, mental status exams, and risk assessments to inform diagnosis and treatment strategies.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, utilizing psychopharmacology principles to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
- Develop individualized care plans incorporating therapy, medication management, and lifestyle modifications tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Provide crisis intervention and acute care for patients experiencing mental health emergencies or behavioral crises.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and primary care providers to coordinate comprehensive treatment approaches.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, treatment options, medication administration, and wellness strategies to promote recovery and resilience.
Requirements
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license with certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience in behavioral health settings with exposure to diverse populations including children, geriatrics, or individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Athenahealth for documentation and patient management.
- Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, medication administration, and clinical research methodologies related to mental health.
- Experience in crisis triage, acute pain management, and emergency room or inpatient psychiatric care is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with telehealth platforms for remote patient consultations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively while maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA standards.
