The organization is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee the delivery of the most impacting plant of the unit at the flagship facility. This professional will report to the Operations Director, and engage with union labor negotiations whilst maintaining the process safety management in the already principled work environment. It is a crucial site for the company's reputation, with regional and global growth opportunities and clear advancement.
Job Description
- Lead manufacturing personnel and technical teams to safely operate the plant and achieve production, quality, safety, health, environmental, and cost objectives in a 24/7 operating environment while ensuring compliance with all applicable Federal, State, Local, and Union requirements.
- Promote a strong culture of safety by modeling exemplary work practices and adherence to critical life-safety protocols.
- Anticipate conditions that may elevate safety or operational risk, such as severe weather or equipment malfunctions, and develop proactive mitigation plans.
- Ensure adequate resources and contingency plans are in place for planned shutdowns, job Hazard Analyses, and off-shift operational support.
- Oversee the investigation process and conduct root-cause analyses for production losses or safety events, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.
- Manage the engagement, performance, and professional development of both direct and indirect reports.
- Maintain a constructive work environment, support conflict resolution, and provide guidance as needed.
- Participate in the asset management process by contributing to evaluations of capacity, resource allocation, shutdown scheduling, and plant trial planning.
- Continuously monitor compliance related to production, yields, fixed costs, and variance reporting to ensure operational discipline and financial accountability.
- Support site and business leadership in developing strategic objectives, the annual operating plan, and other key business initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in specialty chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience at the plant or regional level.
- Proven experience in process scale-up and execution of plant trials.
- A minimum of 3 years of supervisory responsibility within a unionized work environment.
- Demonstrated capability in leading transformational initiatives and influencing cross-functional teams to achieve measurable outcomes.
- Formal life-safety training and a strong track record of identifying and mitigating workplace hazards.
- Ability to operate effectively within, and provide support to, a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
