Department Overview

Information Systems Technology Services is a unified organization comprised of various departments which collaborate effectively in order to deliver high quality technology solutions.

Position Summary

PG&E is seeking an Expert Technical Lead to serve as the primary technical authority and resident subject matter expert (SME) for the BigID platform, including BigID Core (deployed on PG&E‑managed AWS infrastructure with on‑premises remote scanners) and the BigID Privacy Portal (SaaS).

This role is responsible for providing technical leadership, architectural guidance, and long‑term platform strategy for the BigID ecosystem. The successful candidate will act as the technical liaison with the BigID vendor, guide the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) support team, and ensure the platform is scalable, secure, and aligned with PG&E’s privacy, compliance, and cloud standards.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on technical leader with deep experience in AWS, APIs, scripting, containerized workloads, and data platforms, and a strong understanding of how enterprise systems store, expose, and classify data.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland, CA approximately once per week, or more, based on business needs or company requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical owner and SME for BigID Core and BigID Privacy Portal across production and non‑production environments.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the end‑to‑end BigID architecture, including AWS‑hosted components, on‑prem remote scanners, SaaS integrations, and data flows.
  • Provide technical direction and design guidance for enhancements, upgrades, integrations, and new BigID capabilities.
  • Act as the final technical escalation point for complex platform issues beyond standard O&M support.

AWS & Cloud Architecture

  • Lead and support BigID Core deployments on PG&E‑managed AWS infrastructure, including compute, networking, security, and scalability considerations.
  • Design and review infrastructure using AWS Cloud Formation templates and infrastructure‑as‑code best practices.
  • Work with containerized workloads using ECS Fargate and/or EKS (Kubernetes) and Docker.
  • Support and optimize use of AWS services including IAM, Security Groups, Load Balancers, Route 53, and CodePipeline.
  • Ensure platform alignment with PG&E cloud security and compliance standards.

Integrations & API Enablement

  • Lead design and troubleshooting of API‑based integrations between BigID and enterprise systems (databases, applications, SaaS platforms, and custom systems).
  • Design, develop, and maintain medium to complex APIs to support data ingestion, automation, and downstream workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance on authentication, authorization, and secure API patterns.
  • Support integration patterns for structured and unstructured data sources.

Data & Discovery Expertise

  • Provide expertise on data discovery concepts, including structured vs. unstructured data, data classification, and scan result interpretation.
  • Understand and guide how BigID scans and interprets data across platforms such as Oracle, SQL databases, SharePoint, and other enterprise repositories.
  • Partner with Privacy and Compliance stakeholders to translate regulatory requirements into technical platform capabilities.

Operations & Maintenance Enablement

  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring to the O&M team supporting BigID operations.
  • Define support standards, runbooks, and operational best practices in collaboration with O&M teams.
  • Review operational changes to ensure stability, security, and scalability.
  • Enable proactive issue detection and long‑term platform health.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary technical liaison with the BigID vendor, including support escalations, roadmap discussions, and architectural reviews.
  • Evaluate vendor recommendations and align them with PG&E’s technical, security, and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across Privacy, Security, Infrastructure, and Application teams to ensure successful platform outcomes.
