Skills Required

Primary (Must-Have):

  • Minimum 2 years of healthcare experience OR 1 year of experience in a specific department or healthcare call center environment
  • Experience with patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification
  • Knowledge of managed care health plans and insurance processes
  • Understanding of eligibility verification, authorizations, billing, and claims procedures
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Accurate data entry and computer proficiency
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology or at least 6 months of healthcare experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and internal teams


Secondary (Good to Have):

  • Experience in a hospital Emergency Department (ED) environment
  • Experience using Epic or other healthcare information systems
  • Familiarity with patient access workflows and revenue cycle processes
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations


Position Overview

The Patient Access Representative II is responsible for obtaining, verifying, and maintaining accurate patient information to support registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and authorization activities. This role serves as a key point of contact for patients and families, ensuring a positive customer experience while supporting operational efficiency and compliance.

The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, healthcare knowledge, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform patient registration and scheduling activities for inpatient, outpatient, and diagnostic services.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage information.
  • Obtain required authorizations and referrals for healthcare services.
  • Maintain accurate patient demographic and insurance information within designated systems.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation and data entry.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and internal departments.
  • Assist in resolving registration, scheduling, and insurance-related issues.
  • Maintain productivity, quality, and accuracy standards.
  • Utilize Epic and other healthcare systems to support patient access operations.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Support departmental goals and perform additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of healthcare experience OR 1 year of experience within a healthcare department or call center environment.

  • Billing and Claims Procedures
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge OR minimum 6 months of healthcare experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a fast-paced hospital or Emergency Department environment.
  • Experience using Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of patient access and revenue cycle operations.
  • Experience working with diverse socio-economic and cultural populations.


Work Environment

  • High-volume hospital and Emergency Department setting.
  • Night shift schedule with weekend coverage required.
  • Frequent interaction with patients, families, providers, and healthcare staff.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring accuracy, professionalism, and strong multitasking skills.
