Skills Required

Primary (Must-Have)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university.
  • 3–5 years of experience in electric motor design and development.
  • Strong knowledge of electromagnetic theory and electric motor design principles.
  • Experience designing induction and permanent magnet (PM) motors.
  • Experience performing electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical analysis using FEA and CFD simulation tools.
  • Hands-on experience with electric motor testing, validation, and motor teardown.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Knowledge of motor windings, lamination stacks, magnets, and insulation systems.
  • Understanding of motor manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5M (GD&T).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation, reports, and technical presentations.
  • Hands-on hardware development, assembly, repair, and testing experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.


Secondary (Good to Have)

  • Experience developing military or aerospace electromechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of military specifications (MIL-STD), environmental specifications, and qualification testing.
  • Experience designing high-speed electric motors (up to 70,000 RPM).
  • General machine shop experience.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Experience optimizing motor efficiency and performance.
  • Knowledge of vibration, thermal, and NVH testing.



Position Overview

The Electromechanical Engineer II supports the design, development, analysis, testing, and validation of high-speed induction and permanent magnet electric motors used in fans, pumps, and compressors. This position works closely with engineering Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop innovative motor solutions that improve product performance, efficiency, manufacturability, and reliability.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in electromechanical engineering, motor design, simulation, testing, and hardware development, along with excellent analytical and collaborative skills.



Roles & Responsibilities

Electric Motor Design & Development

  • Support the department Subject Matter Expert (SME) in sizing, designing, and developing induction and permanent magnet motors operating at speeds up to 70,000 RPM.
  • Design electromechanical components used in fans, pumps, and compressors.
  • Develop engineering concepts that improve motor efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Support prototype development and product design improvements.


Engineering Analysis & Simulation

  • Perform electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical analysis using FEA and CFD simulation tools.
  • Analyze motor performance and optimize efficiency through simulation and testing.
  • Evaluate design alternatives and recommend engineering improvements.
  • Perform engineering calculations supporting product development.


CAD Design & Documentation

  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
  • Prepare engineering documentation and manufacturing packages.
  • Create detailed drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5M drafting and GD&T standards.
  • Maintain engineering documentation throughout the product lifecycle.


Testing & Validation

  • Develop motor performance specifications and validation test plans.
  • Conduct testing including:
  • Efficiency
  • Torque
  • Speed
  • Thermal Performance
  • Vibration
  • Noise (NVH)
  • Analyze test data and recommend corrective actions or design improvements.
  • Support prototype assembly, troubleshooting, repair, and production hardware testing.


Manufacturing & Product Support

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • Provide engineering support during assembly and production.
  • Resolve manufacturing and hardware issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for manufacturing processes.


Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and manufacturing personnel.
  • Present engineering designs and technical findings to peers, customers, and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports and engineering documentation.
  • Support engineering projects under the guidance of senior engineers and SMEs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience in electric motor design and development.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory and motor design principles.
  • Experience using FEA and CFD simulation software.
  • Hands-on experience with motor testing, teardown, and hardware development.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or equivalent CAD software.
  • Knowledge of motor manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Experience interpreting and creating engineering drawings using ASME Y14.5M standards.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in military or aerospace product development.
  • Familiarity with military specifications, environmental testing, and qualification standards.
  • Experience with high-speed rotating machinery.
  • General machine shop experience.
  • Experience supporting new product development from concept through production.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and continuous improvement methodologies.
